Youth development program will expand its services to address plummeting teen employment rate
Urban Alliance is excited to announce that it will be expanding to Chicago to provide more youth with professional work experience.
With a mission to empower under-resourced youth to aspire, work and succeed through paid internships, formal training and mentoring, the Urban Alliance has effectively served high school students over the course of the last 16 years. After a successful Baltimore program launch in 2008, the organization has continued to grow in size and accomplishments. To date, Urban Alliance’s flagship service, the High School Internship Program has served more than 1,100 youth in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD with an average 99% on-time high school graduation rate and 88% college enrollment rate.
“Knowing that only 16% of Chicago teens are able to find employment compared to 26% nationally, our expansion into Chicago comes at a critical time and we’re excited about the impact that our program will have” says Veronica Nolan, Executive Director of Urban Alliance.
Starting in the fall of 2012, Urban Alliance plans to serve 70 students as part of its High School Internship Program in Chicago. Given the economic climate nationwide, growth of the program will place more students on a path to financial independence by arming them with paid professional work experience and life skills to excel academically and professionally.
